Collision: 2 or more ideas or forms meet in a way that is not expected, or by doing so the forms lose their original shape or meaning. Creates dissonance in the understanding of either form.
Collage: 2 or more ideas or forms meet in a way that may be expected and enhances either form or meaning. Creates harmony in the understanding of either form.
Coincidence: 2 or more ideas or forms exist at the same time without interfering with the other. The overlap causes neither dissonance nor harmony but enhances the understanding of either form.
I have been working on Parc de la Vilette. Focusing on trying to show both the park as a whole and as individual structures (Follies). With the whole structure, I am trying to show Tschumi’s idea of points, lines, and surfaces and how they interact.
I further went on to look at some of the 26 Follies that are arranged throughout the park. I was curious in exploring what similarities they have in terms of language of design. In modeling them I found intersting uses of line and surfaces (you can also consider each follies to be a point to continue the idea that is also played out on a larger scale). In doing so I found similar collage ideas among 3 follies that integrate a circle into the typical square structure.
I am working on a collage and collision perspective when looking at the roof of le Fresnoy, as there is a mix of these large horizontals that have more organic curvilinear holes or “clouds” as Tschumi calls them, along with the strick industrial grid.
