Mariah: Collage City 10/05/2020 (post 1)

I was inspired by the formal elements Rowe/ Koetter mentioned as things that make a city successful (Memorable streets, Stabilizers, Potentially interminable set-pieces, Splendid public terraces, Ambiguous composite buildings, Nostalgia producing instruments, The garden). I took inspiration for the block shapes from the Cerda expansion of Barcelona in his use of ‘Eixamples’ and ‘Manzanas’. Since I just started from scratch, it was hard for me to be a fox rather than a headgehod. I think when I come up with solutions to pre-existing problems I am a fox but when I start from scratch I can’t help but rely on organization and patterns.
