Conditions of Collage
Collision: When different shapes come together in a collision, an entirely new and interesting space is made. This new space combines the simple shapes to make a more complex space.
Negative Space: When shapes are arranged in certain ways they can draw more attention to and compliment the negative spaces that they encompass. These negative spaces in turn compliment the positive and create balance throughout a composition.
Hierarchy: When similar shapes appear in a collage together, the shapes can be made to be different sizes in order to create a hierarchy which will make the composition more interesting and emphasize the focal points of said composition.
Similar Shapes: When the same or similar shapes appear several times in a composition and compliment each other.
Exceptions: When parts of a composition are different from the overarching theme of the composition. In the example you can see that a few of the shapes do not point towards the center of the composition which is what most of the other features do.
Imbalance: When a part of the composition is out of balance and does not entirely align with the rest of the collage.
